Title: Writing African American Experience from a Global South Perspective: Differential Attrition, Traumatic Transmission, and Pluralist Integration in the Poetry of Audre Lorde

Abstract: Audre Lorde was born in Harlem, New York, from a Caribbean immigrant family. Caught in the dual interstice of material and spiritual dimensions, as well as center and periphery positions, the historical memories and existential predicaments internalized within her racial identity endow Lorde’s poetry with a distinct quality of writing difference. And Lorde articulates the transformation of Black subjectivity in the contextual layers of the Global North, the South framed by Northern traditions, and Global South, charting a trajectory from differential attrition to traumatic transmission and ultimately to pluralist integration. From a Deep-South perspective, Lorde demonstrates how a Global-South vision mediates anxieties arising from both the colonial past and the neo-colonial present. By foregrounding pluralistic values, Lorde replaces attritional violence with a poetics of difference that seeks to heal the trauma embedded in racist society.

Keywords: Audre Lorde; Global South; differential attrition; traumatic transmission; pluralist integration
