A Milestone Work in the Interdisciplinary Study of English Literature and Medicine: A Review of Research on Disease Awareness and National Anxiety in 16th and 17th Centuries’ English Literature

Abstract: Tao Jiusheng’s Research on Disease Awareness and National Anxiety in the 16th and 17th Centuries’ English Literature is a pioneering academic work. The book aligns with the development trend of interdisciplinary research, systematically examining the complex relationship between disease metaphors and national anxiety in early modern English literature from the intersecting perspectives of literature and medicine. The work not only expands the scope of domestic Renaissance literature research but also constructs a literary pathological criticism paradigm with distinctive Chinese characteristics, drawing on Western theoretical frameworks. It provides a methodological model for interdisciplinary literary studies and demonstrates the theoretical awareness and innovative potential of Chinese scholars in participating in international academic dialogue.

摘要：陶久胜的《英国16、17世纪文学中的疾病意识与国家焦虑研究》是一部具有开创性意义的学术著作。著作顺应跨学科研究的发展趋势，从文学与医学的交叉视角系统考察早期现代英国文学中疾病隐喻与国家焦虑之间的复杂关系。著作不仅拓展了国内文艺复兴文学研究视域，亦在借鉴西方理论的基础上，构建了具有中国特色的文学病理学批评范式，为跨学科文学研究提供了方法论的示范，并展现出中国学者在参与国际学术对话中的理论自觉与创新潜力。
